From BNC file GVL: Kim Newman, _The night mayor_, New English Library,
Sevenoaks, 1990.

01422 "leaving the remain": as a noun, "remains" usually occurs only in
the plural, but it seems possible that an individual author may have
intentionally used it in the singular.

01425 "ill the distance" -> "in the distance"

01445 "clich<eacute>" is standardly written with an accent, but in popular
publishing it is common to omit Continental accents.

01452 "similies" -> "similes" (this is clearly intended as the plural of
"simile"; the author may actually think it is spelled as in BNC, but
straightforward spelling mistakes are corrected in LUCY whether they derive
from printer or author)

01477 "raised to the skies": this is probably a solecistic use of "raised"
for "rose", but LUCY leaves the text uncorrected.

01495 The BNC file places the begin-italics marker so that "it" as well
as "felt" are italicized, but this is clearly an error; the sense of the
passage implies contrastive stress on "felt".

01513 BNC places the end-italics marker after the dash following the
title; but a dash is neutral between roman and italic, so LUCY moves
the marker to its logical place, before the dash.

01531 In exactly the same way, LUCY moves the end-italics marker from
after the full stop to between that and the last word of the title ending
the sentence.
