From BNC file FBU: _The Weekly Law Reports 1992_, volume 3, u.p., n.d.

This extract begins partway through an internal multi-paragraph quotation
-- a point which was not appreciated at the time the extract boundaries
were chosen.

00130 The BNC file shows the italicized letters "a" and "b" as having
spaces before them, after the opening bracket; but this is probably an
artefact of the BNC compilation system, relating to the insertion of
italics markers. LUCY shows the letters as following the brackets without
space, which is almost certainly the reality; and in consequence it
treats the letters and surrounding brackets as single MCb words.

00109 The BNC file has no explicit indication of a close-quote mark at
the end of this sentence, balancing the &bquo entity at the beginning,
but indicates the end of the quoted material via a </quote> tag; LUCY
inserts the close-quote mark which was probably there in the original
text. Likewise LUCY inserts a close-quote mark at the end of s-unit
00115 to balance the open-quote mark at the beginning of 00114.
